Bernie's Book Drive (Davis Goal is 3,000 Books)
D303 is continuing to partner with Bernie's Book Bank, a non-profit organization devoted to providing books to elementary children who are at-risk learners. This is a wonderful organization located in Lake Forest, Illinois, supporting literacy learning by providing books to children who need them. More information is available on their website www.berniesbookbank.org . Through this partnership, Bernie's Book Bank will provide 2 book distributions per school year for identified Pre-K through 5th grade students. At each distribution, the students will receive a bag of 6 books for them to keep which are age, interest, and reading level appropriate. This happens 2 times per year so each child will receive 12 books a year.
261 Davis Primary Students benefitted directly this past year. D303 is supporting Bernie's Book Bank this April by conducting a district-wide book collection drive from April 3-14. All elementary, middle and high schools will be participating. Amy Kappele, Davis Primary Reading Specialist, has also invited St. Charles businesses to join us as well. Book boxes will be placed at strategic sites around the city such as the St. Charles Park District, STC Library, and Bethlehem Lutheran. Our Davis Primary goal is 3,000 books.
